2018 Blog Update

Hey everyone, I’m sorry that it’s been so long since I last posted.

One of my goals for 2018 is to start releasing regular content again.

31Kings Refocus

I’ve decided to refocus my blog.

The primary purpose of this blog is to help people to do their life well, or as the bible puts it to “reign in life” (Rom 5:17). I don’t want people who want to do their life well not to read my blog because they’re not interested in the other stuff I post that doesn’t necessarily pertain to doing life well.

So in light of this refocusing, I will no longer be doing the weekly “Week In Links” posts and the quarterly “Spotify Playlist” posts. If that’s discouraging to you, know that you can still get all the same links by following me on Twitter or by checking my Twitter page periodically for new links.

Thanks for reading.

31Kings One Year Anniversary

Today marks the one year anniversary of this blog.

In that year, approximately 20,000 people visited the site.

I wanted to write a quick note thanking everyone for visiting and reading.

In the last year I’ve both discovered that I really enjoy writing and also that it’s a lot of work to do it.

But I believe that the work is well worth the enjoyment.

Sorry that the posts have been a bit more sporadic recently. I’m hoping to get back into a better rhythm of consistent writing here soon.

Thanks again for reading and sharing!

Blog Update 07/29/13

I wanted to write and let people know that I will no longer be doing manhood posts every Monday.  I will still try to do a post on manhood every week.  I just won’t be limiting them to Mondays, and some weeks I may not get to a manhood post at all.

I have a bunch of material left to write about concerning manhood.  But with my current schedule, it will be nice to be able to do manhood posts any day of the week, rather than limiting them to only Mondays.   This way, if another topic is more pressing I can write on that earlier in the week if I want to, and I’ll have more flexibility if I don’t get to a manhood at all in a particular week.

This just gives me a little more freedom and breathing room.

Thanks for reading!

If you like a particular post, please share it with friends.

100th Blog Post And A Favor To Ask

This is my 100th blog post.

Thanks to everyone who has been reading and sharing; this site has been visited by about 7,000 unique visitors, in the last 6 months.

If you’ve enjoyed reading this blog or have been encouraged or challenged by a particular post, then I have a favor to ask.

Would you either:

  1. Share this blog with a person or a bunch of people, via a personal invitation or a social media share?
  2. Pick one of your favorite posts (here’s the complete list) that you haven’t shared, and share it via social media or email?

I would really appreciate it.  I’d especially love to see my manhood posts getting out to more guys.

Thanks again!

Blog Update: The First Three Months

jump_tuxI’ve been blogging now for three months. I wanted to write and say thanks to everyone who’s been reading. Last month I had more than a thousand unique visitors to the site. Thanks for reading, commenting, and sharing. I really appreciate it.

I’ve got a long list of post ideas that I’m looking forward to sharing with you.  I’ve posted 58 times and we haven’t even hit parenting, the kingdom, or dating.  Stay tuned for those new topics and more.  I’ll continue to tackle manhood every MANic monday and I also want to do some more video posts, more life hacks, more on the church, etc.

If you want to make sure you don’t miss any posts, be sure to subscribe below this post so you get an email every day that new content is available.  If email is not your thing, go ahead and follow along via social media.

And lastly, I’d love to hear from you.

What topics would you like me to cover? What would you like more of? What would you like to see me tackle that I haven’t? Let me know in the comments of this post or via email or social media.

Thanks again for reading, commenting, and sharing.  I appreciate all the shares, likes, tweets, retweets, and mentions.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.  -Josh

Why I’m Blogging

So I started a blog.  Here’s why:

  1. Platform For My Voice
I believe God has called me to be a voice. A blog gives me a public platform to use written word, audio, and video to be that voice.
  2. Book Writing
One of my life goals is to write books. This blog is my practice field and the place where content gets tested and tried.
  3. Thought Clarity
I preach often and writing helps bring greater clarity to my thoughts.  A blog disciplines me to write often.
  4. Dialogue and Feedback
Ideas grow and get refined when they are tested with other people.  A blog is a place to start conversations.
  5. Meet and Connect
I love meeting and connecting with new people.  A blog brings people together around shared interests.
  6. Help People
I’ve been challenged and transformed by great content all throughout my life.  I like to help people in the same way, by providing challenging content that transforms lives.  A blog provides a means to do that.
  7. It Makes Me Come Alive
Providing challenging, transformational content makes me come alive. If it makes me come alive, it will give God the most glory and do people the most good.

I’m Starting A Blog

I’m finally doing it.  I’m starting a blog.  I’ve been wanting to do this for a while.

Back in 1998, in the old days of the internets, I used to send emails that I called “snipitats”.  Snipitats were random reflections on quotes, lyrics, or scriptures.  It was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed the clarity of thought that writing them produced and the feedback I got from those who read them.

A lot has changed in the last 14 years since then and I have a lot I’d like to write and speak about.  I plan on using three different mediums to do it:  written word, video, and audio.

I will be blogging on topics like gender roles, the church, the gospel, the kingdom of God, marriage, family, parenting, dating, money, business, divine order, music, current events, the internet, and more.  The goal of this blog is to help people to “reign in life“.

I plan on posting regularly, with a minimum of two posts per week.  And my goal is to have some posts that happen on a weekly basis.  For example, every Friday, I’ll be posting the links I found interesting during that particular week.  Among those links I’ll feature some more prominently, like a song or video of the week.  I’m also hoping to do weekly posts on manhood.

I will link to audio messages where appropriate.  Any audio messages I preach at Bellicose Church or anywhere else will be added to my sermon audio podcast.  I won’t blog every message I preach, but each message will be added to the podcast.

I hate wasting my time with mediocre content as much as you do, so I will do my best to post content that’s worth your time.

If you want to get free email updates every time I post something new, enter your email address below. I promise I won’t share your email with anyone else.

I’d love to get your feedback on the things I post, so post your comments.
